Question: Hi Doctor,

I am 29 years old male and have recurrent problem of kidney stones. I underwent Calcium serum and PTH test. My calcium serum comes out to be 10.6 which looks a bit high and my PTH level is 52.6 which looks normal. I am really worried about results. DO i have high risk of getting cancer/tumor?

Brief Answer:
The risk of acquiring cancer is minimal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

Your calcium and PTH scores, both are well in the normal range.

You need not worry of these results much.

The risk of acquiring cancer is absolutely minimal.

I advise you to have a complete 24 hr urine examination with a CT scan abdomen for further specific management.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

Thanks for your kind reply. I am able to pass one stone naturally just half an hour ago but still have 3 more in both of my kidneys.

Please confirm the purpose of undergoing CT scan for abdomen. Also, i have read that if Calcium is less than 10.1 , then only its normal. Isn't it abnormal in my case? Is it possible to dissolve existing stones through allopathy or i need to go for ayurvedic treatment (Neeri syrup + cystone tablets) or homeopathic one (berberis vulgaris + Hydrangea)?

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

Can you please reply to my queries?

Brief Answer:
Blood calcium value less than 8 mg/dl is taken as subnormal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your concern.

CT scan of the abdomen is very useful in exactly identifying the location and size of the stones.

By doing so,it can predict the possibility of the spontaneous passage of stones in future.

Pertaining to the calcium level, the normal level is 9-10.5 mg/dl.

Even though your value is 10.6 mg/dl is more than the normal range,it can be considered normal as well Or else you can take the option of repeating the test.

Only values less than 8 mg/dl are considered abnormal or low.

10.1 mg/dl in not taken as a limit as per your conviction.

The stones can be possibly dissolved only through Allopathic management via drugs and lithotripsy procedures.

Ayurveda and Homeopathy has no proven role in dissolving stones.Hence I advise you to refrain from using such services.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Get free calcium levels to eliminate confusion

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

Yes there can be lab variations in assessing serum calcium.

In order to eliminate all confusion I advise you get serum albumin and free(ionised) calcium levels.

This is an accurate predictor of body active calcium.

The normal range reference value for this for your age is 4.8-5.8 mg/dl.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
