Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Low Grade Diverticulitis

About 2 weeks ago I started having pain in my left lower abdomen.
I was put on Cipro which I completed and then Flagyl of which I took half.In case it was a diverticulosis.
I have IBS. My last colonoscopy was 7 years ago with 3 polyp removals.
For the last 4 days I have been soiling myself slightly and I have also noticed that I pass gas before I pass the soft stool. Now I have tenderness in the lower mid section of my abdomen.
Any ideas please? And what tests to take?
I have no blood in the stool. Thanks
Helical CT abdomen is the need of the hour.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
I understand your query and concern.
You seem to have simple recurrent low grade diverticulitis which is inflammation of the diverticula which you harbour inside your colon.
This is unrelated to previous polyps and IBS.
This diverticulitis is largely associated with lower abdominal pain, flatulence and a change in bowel habits.
I strongly recommend you to have a Helical CT scan of the abdomen, which can accurately determine the stage of this diverticular disease and the need for permanent surgical intervention.
Further management is based on the stage of the disease.
Colonoscopy is generally contraindicated in this acute infection setting as it leads to bowel perforation.
So its better to rule out the option of going for repeat colonoscopy at the moment.
Antibiotics like Moxifloxacin 400 mg/twice a day for 7 days are the need of the hour in your case.
Consult your doctor the medical prescription of the above drug.
Diet should be in the form of clear liquid ,low fat ,high fiber diet.
I hope i have answered your query at the moment,
Post your further queries if any.
Thankyou.
