Suggest Treatment For Red Blood Cells In Urine
Question: My last blood lab work show 15 red blood cells in my urine. Has always been normal before this test. I supplied another urine sample in two containers, one empty and the other with some sort of liquid in it. He also scheduled a CT scan. I have an appointment with the urology department on Tuesday and the CT scan on Wednesday. Since the link denoted 4-10 and mine was 15, needless to say I am concerned. I have no trouble urinating and the color is either very clear or slightly yellow. I have no other symptoms that I have read about, that would include sexual side effects. I am a smoker. Is the 15 count - does that make it more serious?

Well this is abnormal to have RBC in urine and 15 is moderately high value. It can be seen in various conditions and most are not serious. Sometomes it can even be seen without some cause since passd urinary stone or uretral unjury may lead to temporary rbc in urine.
However, further tests are required to rule out some disorders such as Cystitis, Glomerulonephritis, Kidney trauma or urinary stones.
Most common this is caused by stones or uroinfection.
Some more serious causes such as bladder tumor or kidney tumor is less common but it would be better to do cystoscopy and intraveous urography since ct may not be sensitive enough.
