Posted on Sat, 24 Oct 2015
Question: Hypertension - 20 years, under control (130/90), nibicard 2.5 mg, 0 - 0 - 1
Diabetic - 5 years, not under control, Glycephage 500mg, 1 - 0 - 1

Would you be able to suggest change in medication for controlling blood sugar levels?
I walk about 8000 - 10000 steps/day over the last 3 months. It was a sedantary lifestyle before that.
Diet is very light breakfast and lunch, but heavy dinner!

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Brief Answer:
You need modification.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Your reports are extremely worrisome and they require immediate modification of the treatment.
Your blood sugars are not going to get controlled by Glyciphage.
You need to take DDP4 inhibitor like Sitagliptin with a combination of Metformin and Glimiperide for the control. Dosage would be adjusted accordingly.
Your lipid profile is also severely deranged and requires treatment with Anti Cholesterol medicines like Statins.
This is very important for you to get your blood sugar and cholesterol under control otherwise your are at risk of complications.
I would recommend you to see your Physician and share my opinion with him.
He would modify your prescription accordingly.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
