Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Well, although, according to your age, this is nothing to worry about, there are some tests I would like you to run, so we can safely exclude every possible cause. First, this is not a pain derived from heart arteries (coronary arteries) as it has different characteristics, therefore nothing to worry about in that domain.
However, this may come from acute or chronic inflammation of the within ribcage linings: pleura and pericardium. Tests I would recommend would be:
- echo cardiogram - which would evaluate the pericardium as a possible cause for your pain
- plain chest X-ray - which would depict any lung problem that could cause your pain
My strongest suspicion is that this may be an inflammation of the in-between-ribcage muscles' inflammation due to posture or exposing to cold. In this case, a short (5-7 day) course of over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) would help.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. I am happy to help, if you have followup questions. Please rate the answer, if you do not.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Meriton
My husband has the portable air con at the end of our bed.
I hope it may be just a chill.
Should I still request another x ray etc.
Welcome back

Hello again.
I am glad I have been of help. I would recommend you to run the tests as I recommended them. Although I think there is nothing to worry about, still an X-ray should be done, so a possible acute process could be excluded.
I hope this helps. Please close the discussion and rate the answer, if you do not have further questions. Wish you a good health.
