Question: I have a serious ring-worm problem in the fatty tissue areas of the body and my Doctor is treating me with Lotrimin Ultra. It isn't working and I am miserable. The yeast fungal from the inside is causing the ring-worm to stay alive. WHAT CAN I DO?

Brief Answer:
oral and topical antifungals

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.
I have read your query and understood your concern.

If it is confirmed fungal infection, in that case I usually advice my patients to take oral antifungals like fluconazole / terbinafine for atleast 2 weeks . Alongwith topical creams containing antifungals like clotrimazole / terbinafine/ sertraconazole are advised to be applied twice daily over the affected areas.

For symptomatic relief, you may take antihistaminics like Levocetrizine / fexofenadine in night time.

Keep the area clean and dry.
Change and wash clothes daily.

I will also advice you to get your fasting and post prandial blood sugar levels to rule out diabetes.

You can discuss this with your treating doctor, I hope he/ she will agree with my opinion.

Brief Answer:
can affect liver and kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome again.

In patients with already existing kidney and liver disease, oral drugs are used with caution and dose modification is required.
One should always take these drugs under supervision in case systemic diseases are present.
If limited disease, in such patients we preferably try to treat with topicals only.

I hope i am able to solve your query. If you have further query , you may ask me.
