Suggest Treatment For Running Nose And Fever
Question: Hello Doctor, My daughter is of 8 month and she is having running nose (cold) from last 4 days so I gave her cinarest af but from last 2 days she is having fever ranging between 99.5 to 102 so I gave her paracetamol drops and meftal p but fever is going up and down

Most common cause of fever with cold in this age is some viral infection.This should be treated symptomatically.
In most of the such cases fever shows a declining trend after 3-4 days.
I won't get worried if baby is active,playful,accepting feeds well,there is no increase in respiratory rate or retraction of chest.
Sinarest AF contains phenylephrine a decongestant and chlorpheniramine an antiallergic.
Continue giving Sinarest AF 3-4 times a day depending on the severity of symptoms.
You can put nasal saline drop one drop in each nostril if there is any nasal blockage.
For fever give paracetamol.Just check whether you are giving appropriate dose or not.Dose of paracetamol is 10-15 mg/kg/dose and it can be given 6-8 hourly.
If temperature recurs in less than 6 hours you can give meftal -p and it's dose is 5-8 mg/kg/dose.It can also be given at frequency of 8 hours.
Continue feeding as before illness.
I would suggest you to make a temperature chart,so that we can assess the trend of fever.
If fever persists for more than 4 days (not showing declining trend) or there is any sign of breathing problem please get her evaluated by your pediatrician.
