Suggest Treatment For Runny Nose And Cough While Breastfeeding
I am 20 years old female. I m suffering from running nose, cough last two days. I m breast feeding mom.
Take symptomatic treatment.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
Runny nose and cough are mostly due to viral infection of throat and will get subsided within 2 or 3 days with only symptomatic treatment.
You can take below mentioned over the counter treatment.
1) Take anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) if you have throat pain which is available over the counter.
2) Antihistamines like cetrizine 10 mg twice daily for your cough and runny nose.
3) Nebulization with steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day will also be helpful.
4) Start warm salt water gargles for symptomatic relief from cough.
5) Avoid cold water or any other cold products like ice-cream or soft drink because doing so, may cause further inflammation in throat.
6) No need to take antibiotics since it is mostly due to viral infection.
All these medicines are available over the counter and they are also safe in lactating mothers,so there will be no harm to your feeding child.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions to ask.
