Suggest Treatment For Sensitive Spots On Scalp With Headaches

Question: I have been having like really sensitive spots on my scalp for a few weeks now. This has begun after a few months of headaches almost every day. I have gone to multiple doctors for this issue. My first doctor had told me that my headaches were coming from a common cold. After about a month of cold medicine and no changes, i went to another doctor who told me it could be from a sinus infection caused by allergies. He gave me antibiotics and a steroid shot for that. Then after that didnt work i went to another doctor who thought that it could be tension headaches because my neck muscles were really tight. This was about four weeks ago, and thats when the sensitive spots on my scalp started. They kind of move around, and sometimes are just like pain. Sometimes it hurts when i touch it. Sometimes it just feels sensitive and sometimes if feels like the hair is being pulled when i touch the sensitive area. I went to a chiropractor to get my back fixed hoping to get rid of the tension headaches. After three weeks of treatment, the chiro is saying that my neck and back are doing a lot better, but my headaches and sensitive spot issues are still around. I also do not have my wisdom teeth out and when the chiro x rayed my spine he could see that they were growing in completely horizontal so i dont know if that could be causing this. Im really worried that i have a brain tumor or something!! Please let me know if you know what could be causing my headaches and wierd sensitive scalp issue

Brief Answer:
Complicated migraine vs Trigeminal neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello

There are two simple differentials for your problem
1. It could be complicated migraine causing sensory symptoms that is your sensitive scalp
2. Trigeminal neuralgia ( the major supplier of the scalp area)

Here is what you should do

1. Get an MRI brain to look for trigeminal nerve compression
2. MRI spine to see the compression of the second cervial nerve as this supplies the posterior half of the scalp

Once you rule these both out then we are sure that it is the migraine itself causing this. The ideal drug that I would prescribe to my patients would be Tab Tryptomer once at night for a month along with naproxen for acute headaches.

I hope I was of help and I have added clarity to your problem. If you have any further queries please get back to me
