Question: Something has bitten me on my foot. It itches but it has also swollen considerably. The swelling looks like a sprained ankle but I know I haven't sprained it. I have been on line checking black widow symptoms because I do have them on my property. I was working outside in my garden with sandals on.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment for insect bite reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You seem to have developed a severe allergic reaction to an insect bite.
You should start with oral antihistamine like tablet claritin once a day or you can take benadryl in the adult dosage . This will help to reduce the allergic reaction and will decrease the swelling.
Also you should apply a topical steroid cream like cortisone over the affected areas twice a day .
In case the pain is too much, you can take an oral anti inflammatory agent like paracetamol .
In most cases, insect bite reactions subside with the above management .
In rare cases, there can be need of short courses on oral steroids when the swelling is not relieved with antihistamine drugs.
