Question: Hi,
My name is XXXX and i m from XXXXXXX
I have had migraine since i was a little kid. In my case migraine was hereditary because both my mom and dad had migraine. Currently i am 20years old and i still suffer from migraine frequently. I dont know what to do to stop or control these migraine attacks. My migraines usually start from my left eye and after some time it spreads to all of the head.
On top of that, from yestrday i started getting sudden pains in my head closer to the front region and this pain just lasts for about 5-15minutes and goes. I donno what triggers this, it just comes suddenly. And when it comes my head throbs very badly. Its just like poking.
Please help me is this an ice pick headache or a cluster headache?

Brief Answer:
You need to take NSAIDs to bring down the pain

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. However, I would need the answers to the following:
* Whether the pain affects one half of the head.
* Whether there is something that tells you beforehand that you might get a headache soon.

In case of migraine, most often one half of the head is affected and there is some sort of aura or feeling that the headache is going to start again. It would need careful clinical evaluation and correlation to make out whether it is migraine or cluster headache, something that is beyond the scope of this online discussion. However, in either case, taking Naprosyn (naproxen) 500 mg tablet one or two tablets together as per your requirement, should give you relief from such an episode. Meanwhile, get yourself evaluated by a doctor and discuss whether you should take metoprolol or some other medicine to prevent 'migraine' from occurring.

Hope that helps.

Yes doctor there is something begore hand that tells me i will get a headache soon.
Morning when i get up there might be a minute pain on any one side of the head. And this tells me that i ll get today.
The pain attacks are less now and the intensity has also decreased but still i am getting the pain attacks.

Is there some problem with my head?

Brief Answer:
It seems that you have migraine

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
The indications that make you feel beforehand that you are going to headache, are called aura. It is a characteristic of migraine. We would assume that you have migraine. During the episodes you should get relief with one or two tablets of naproxen as mentioned. You need to discuss with your treating physician whether you should start taking metoprolol on regular basis in order to avoid getting the migraines. Since you mention that the intensity is lesser, you might like to wait and watch.
There is no problem in your head. Migraine occurs due to dilatation of the blood vessels in brain and it is likely that you have such a condition.
Hope that helps.
