Question: Hello,
I am 33 yrs old woman. Past 10 months, I have severe asthma and doctor has advised me to take Montek LC every night along with Rablet D and Beplex Forte. Currently, if I stop Montek LC , I get breathless in a day or 2. So doctor advised to continue. Besides asthma, I have no other problems.
I am planning to conceive. I would like to know is it safe to conceive while taking these 3 tablets daily: Montek LC, Rablet D and Beplex Forte?? Is Beplex Forte ok to be taken during pregnancy as its a vitamin tablet?
Please confirm with exact info.

Brief Answer:
montek lc is a category b drug

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
Montek LC or Montelukast has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal data have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Montelukast is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
The other 2 medications rablet d which is rabeprazole and beplex forte which is a vitamin are safe to be used during pregnancy. Also if you are planning to conceive you must start on TAB FOLIC ACID 5mg daily from now to reduce any risk of congenital or morphological anomalies in the foetus.

Brief Answer:
yes, it is ok to be continued

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As your asthma is severe and can only be controlled by Montek LC, so the question of stopping Montek LC doesn't arise at all. However if you have planned for conception then you have to be continued on the drug. Montek LC is a category B drug where its use in animals have not shown any development of congenital anomalies in the animal's foetuses, but human studies are not available, so its difficult to comment with certainty that this drug is 100 per cent safe or not. Hence directive is that the drug should be used in pregnancy if benefits outweighs the risks of usage, which is true in your case of severe asthma.

There is no definite contraindication to getting pregnant while on this drug but anomalies may or may not occur, that cannot be commented upon. In a normal pregnancy, Montek lc is not advised at all in early pregnancy months till at least 14 weeks.
There are various steps during pregnancy to detect any anomaly be it congenital or morphological so that necessary decision can be taken well in advance, also not all babies get affected. So you may go ahead with the pregnancy but it would be a high risk pregnancy and you have to be under constant medical care of your obstetrician.
