Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain And Stiffness

I have back pain started 10 days back. I went to doctor and he told me to get blood report for Vit D and B12 and also X-RAY for your spine.
My report is as follow:
25-hydroxy vitamin D = 11 ng/ml
B12 = 350 pg/mL
After X-RAY report, doctor told me that there is decrese in gap between c5-c6 section of spine.
He suggested me Vit d + B12 supplements and also some exercises for neck.
I just wanted to know how this had happened. I was doing exercise for last 2 months- cycling and weight lifting (10 kg dumbell) and ab roller (around 20-30 times). I usually do in the same sequence as I mentioned above. After doing I usually do stretch exercise.
Is there any remedy for the same?
I feel more stiffness in the morning.
Cause of cervical spondylosis and treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. It is good that you are doing exercise on regular basis. You are having low Vitamin D value. Regarding B12, it might be in normal range. Kindly provide me reference range of both. B12 is rarely low if a person eats non-vegetarian food, curd and dairy products.
Regarding low Vitamin D, it is a very common problem of todays time. It is due to our life style. It became low in your body due to less sunlight exposure in a daytime. If you are an indoor worker like in Corporate/studying/office job, your body is not getting enough sunlight to form Vitamin D. You must expose your body to sunlight at least 5 minutes a day (without use of sunscreen). Till then, normalise it by taking Vitamin D supplement once a week for 3 months.
Heavy weight exercise will also help in increasing calcium and vitamin D in body.
Now coming to Cevical spondylosis (C5-C6 reduced space). Let me tell you it is normal for your age. In present time, as a result of overuse of X ray/MRI, patients are confused due to incidental findings, age related spine changes. This reduction in space is kind of degenerative change in spine. It might be progressed little more due to continuous forward bending while doing office work, but still it is normal. This occurs because of gradual loss of water from cervical disc present between C5-C6. This leads to reduction in space/height.
Do not worry about it. Continue your daily routine of exercise. Always stretch your muscles before and after exercise. Do not do weight lifting without guidance.
During work, try to take break while working on laptop/computer/writing or reading and always do neck extension/rolling. It will delay the changes.
Normalisation of vitamin D and calcium will also help in stabilising degeneration.
Regarding stiffness, it will subside with stretching/rest and exercise. Do not worry if
: No sharp, shooting radiating pain in neck upto hands.
: New onset of focal deficit
: Vertigo, dizziness
: Severe tingling, numbness in fingers
: Loss of sensation in extremities
Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
