Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough While Suffering From Bronchitis
Question: I have a severe cough caused by bronchitis. I need the steroid protocol given to me last year in the emergency room. Ive been drinking lots of fluids , hot tea and ibuprofen. My chest hurts due to the pain of continued coughing. What should I do go to ER?

According to the history you provide it seems to me that you have chronic bronchitis riacutised probably from a viral situation.
Except inhalers you may start the treatment with steroids (like prednisone twice/d in tappering dose)
Becareful arterial tension and glucose levels of you are diabetic and the stomach too.
If the pain is so strong go to ER to get medical help, if not continue prednison tablets.

Can you call in a prescription for the steroid pack? I got this after a friend visited with same symptoms he finally got the steroid pack and is feeling better. How long will I be contagious?

If you were my patient in my clinic I would start you the treatment with prednisone twice for five days with tapering the dose for five other days; Tab Prednisone 5 mg twice a day for 5 days and once a day for 5 days. You can discuss with your local doctor.
Without direct physical examination, I am not allowed to write / call in prescriptions. Therefore you need to contact a doctor nearby for a prescription.
No I do not think you are contagious now from the viral infection.That period has already passed
