Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
I understand how inconveniencing and uncomfortable this could be. It is great already tests were run to rule out anything very serious.
Viral infections general fade out with time and should not usually exceed a week with appropriate symptoms control. I suggest you remain somewhat patient and continue with the medication that was prescribed.
It is however to monitor and ensure that the intensity of the cough and any other associated symptoms is decreasing as the days go by. In case you start noticing serious difficulties to breath, aggravation in intensity of cough, chest pain and fever, this could be indicative of a bacterial infection adding to the base created by the viral infection.
At this point, I think it is too early for you to bother very much. Generally, coughs due to viral infections should fade out in a week with appropriate symptom control. I suggest you remain very calm but monitor intensity of the cough and any onset of new symptoms, In case you experience any of those, you might have to consult your primary care physician for a clinical review and chest X ray.
For now no worries, be calm as symptom will decrease gradually. Kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
Kind regards,
Dr Bain
