Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression And Anxiety
Question: Hi, I am having a horrid time dealing with severe depression and anxiety and I have no one to talk to about it. My husband is bi-pola and I have two little kids who I am struggling to deal with. My husband does not know how to help me or be there for me and I feel so alone. I am not on any medication at the moment though I know I should be, I am trying to get into see a psychiatrist however had had no such luck with being accepted as yet.

You are a young female of 29 year old, with two children. Your husband is having bipolar disorder and he is not able to help you or be there by you. You have symptoms of severe anxiety and depression. You have tried Lexapro, Zoloft etc medicines but currently you are not on medications.
Now coming to discussion-
In a number of family members of psychiatric patients symptoms of distress anxiety are observed. Your husband is bipolar and this cause significant distress to your life. He is not with you and this cause significant trauma and you have started feeling alone and you are depressed. Such symptoms occur due to Adjustments disorder. Individuals some times fails to cope up with repeated psychological trauma and this results in emergence of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Best thing that can be done in such situation is to consult a Psychiatrist.
Medicinal treatment result in early improvement. Medicines of SSRI group can be used like Fluoxetine, Escitalopram etc. These medicines are safe and result in early improvement in patients of depression. But you need to visit a Psychiatrist to start these medicines. You have taken Sertraline, Escitalopram already but even these consultation is must.
Take balanced food. Avoid alcohol, tobacco use. Take diets rich in proteins and carbohydrates and reduce fat intake. Chocolates help in improving mood. Walnuts, hazelnuts consist of Omega-3 fatty acids and help in improving response of drugs. You can take omega 3 soft gels also.
Psychological treatment in form of Relaxation exercises like Progressive Muscle Relaxation exercise, cognitive therapy is also useful in anxiety and depression.
Provide good care to your husband as his clinical outcome improves you will start seeing improvement in your symptoms. There is no need to worry things will improve with time.
