You need to consult a psychiatrist urgently
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for your query. Welcome to HCM.
Feeling suicidal thoughts and ideation is present in severe depression. I think you urgently consult a psychiatrist.
Stress always plays part but beyond this there is a life for you. Everything happens for a reason. You will know your reason one day. Meanwhile get up and get active.
You should visit a psychiatrist and tell all your problems. he will start some antidepressant drug along with anxiolytics. Once your depression and suicidal thoughts subside you can go for counselling and psychotherapy sessions. In a depression which develops due to some stress, role of psychotherapy particularly cognitive behavior therapy is there.
SSRI antidepressants like lexapro, zoloft, prozac will help you. These drugs wont resolve your stress but they will give you strength to fight. Withing 15 days after starting the drugs you will experience improvement in your depression and thoughts. You have to continue drug for at least 6 to 8 months. Follow your psychiatrist's advice.
Meanwhile do not act upon your suicidal thoughts. Use helpline for suicide.
Do not remain alone at any time. Always accompany with someone. Try to share your thoughts to your friends and family. Engage your self in activities.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have further query then feel free to ask.
Wish you good health.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.
In depression when it is severe the self help exercises wont help much. These activities can be helpful when your symptoms severity has decreased, when you can concentrate on one activity. But you can still try because you are willing for that and that is good. You can help yourself.
Just go for psychiatric consultation and take drugs for 4 weeks, then you can go for all these self help activities for depression. Even your psychiatrist will guide you in better way.
It is very difficult to explain all these activities and programs here, so I am sending you a link of the pdf file which shows evidence based non pharmacological treatment options in depression. Just go through it and if you need extra details then search, it is easily available on the internet.
