Posted on Fri, 13 Nov 2015
Question: My son has eczema very severe we have been seeing a dermatologist and he told us eventually the atopical meds would stop working. I think we hit this point. Is there any way I can help him without the steroids and topical salve? I was thinking of starting him with a immune booster vitamin, burdock root tea- with this is it a family of the grasses for he is allergic to hay? and what kind of cream can I use with out the harseness?

Brief Answer:
Use moisturizing lotions. Avoidance of steroid creams is preferrable

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have carefully gone through your query and understand your concerns. Eczema is caused due to a problem in mast cell stabilization, thus spilling allergy-mediating chemicals in the blood. Hence the solution would be to take medicine like monteleukast+levocetirizine off and on once daily as required. Apart from this, use of moisturizing creams like aloe vera lotion is very important. You can refrain from topical steroid use.
I would not promote what you refer to as 'immune booster vitamin'. You can give Vitamin E supplements like Evion 400 but look no further. The claims of efficacy are much more than the actual facts.
You can give burdock root tea or anything else but I doubt if it would help. Rather, intake of colorful vegetables and fruits would be more helpful.
Hope that helps.
