Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would explain that her symptoms seem to be related to an infection.
Her past medical history of diabetes and cardiac disease indicates that her immune system is really vulnerable.
Headaches may be a nonspecific sign related to fever, but could also indicate a higher intracranial pressure (such as in the case of meningitis).
Does she have other symptoms like: diarrhea or abdominal pain, urinating problems, nasal discharge, cough, etc which could help localize a possible infection?
I recommend going to the ER for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG, a chest x Ray study, an abdominal ultrasound and some lab tests:
-complete blood count
-PCR, sedimentation rate
-fasting blood glucose
- kidney and liver function tests
-blood electrolytes
- urine analysis
Further tests may be needed to establish the diagnosis ( blood and urine bacterial culture).
A brain CT scan and spinal tap are necessary to be done if suspicions of meningitis are raised.
Hope to have been helpful!
Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!
Greetings!
