Suggest Treatment For Severe Headache
Migraine, venous thrombosis, increased intracranial pressure
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Any headache that is getting worse, lasts longer than a day with no relief from the usual medications warrants immediate medical attention.
I would like to primarily rule out migraine & venous thrombosis
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
-does he have any other symptoms like fever, vomiting, nausea, giddiness, blurred vision /visual disturbances?
-is his painful eye red or watery?
-does he have any other medical condition or take any medications?
-has he had any head/neck /spinal Injury? Any surgeries?
-does he smoke or consume alcohol?
I recommend :
-a physician consult
-an MRI of the brain with MRA & MRV (to check for any vascular occlusion)
-blood tests (complete blood count, electrolytes, kidney & liver function tests, clotting parameters )
-a complete eye exam.
Based on the clinical exam findings, answers to the above questions and results, a diagnosis and treatment plan can be made.
In the meantime :
-maintain adequate Hydration (about 3 liters a day). Urine should be a pale yellow color during the day.
-avoid driving
If he develops severe vomiting, seizures, headache, weakness of arms or legs, fainting spells, visit the ER right away.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you both good health
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
