I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!!

Welcome back on HCM!

I passed carefully through your concern and would like to explain that in order to properly address palpitations complaint it is necessary to find the precise reason of such an unpleasant feeling.

Palpitations may be due to any cardiac arrhythmic disorder, certain cardiac structural disorders, anemia, thyroid gland dysfunction, blood electrolytes imbalance, hypovolemia, any systemic inflammation/infection, pheochromocytoma, etc.

Even excessive, persistent anxiety may lead to recurrent heart palpitations.

Once the cause is rightly detected, the treatment would definitely be effective.

Coming to this point, I would recommend performing some medical tests:

- resting ECG,
- 24 to 48 hours ECG monitoring (Holter),
- complete blood count,
- PCR & ESR,
- thyroid hormone levels,
- blood electrolytes level,
- urine methanephrines,
- cardiac ultrasound

You need to discuss with your attending physician on the above mentioned issues.

In none of the above is present, then anxiety could be a potential cause.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further uncertainties, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

I suffer from anxiety and am on propranolol for it. I have been advised by a health care provider that it could be down to this.

My opinion as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

If after checking for the above mentioned issues, nothing obvious result, then anxiety could be a reasonable explanation of recurrent palpitations.

Coming to this point, a better management of potential triggering factors may lead to less anxious moments and fewer unpleasant feelings.

I recommend strongly considering life-style optimization; participating in more physical activity and recreational outdoor events, sports like aerobics, swimming, cycling, etc.

In addition some expert guided therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), etc. would be helpful in this regard.

If nothing of the above results helpful, then medical assistance through certain medications (anxiolytics) could be beneficial.

That's my opinion.

Regards,

Dr. Iliri
