Suggest Treatment For Severe Hip Pain In An Elderly Person
Question: Good afternoon. I am a 62 yr old woman with L hip pain. I stand hours at a time in my work - and have for 43 years. The discomfort I have is high in the pelvic bone near my waist. I am also experiencing a numbness in the L outer thigh, and a grinding feeling and sound in the L knee when climbing stairs. Are they related, and who should I see for a consult?
Brief Answer:
You have Iliotibial band syndrome. Caused by your knee pain/overuse
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back to HCM: Please note that your left knee sounds like it has "worn out" and that will effectively cause your to walk with a limp, weather you know it or not, this means effectively you have an "uneven stance" causing strain to this left outer band/leg. I would start with your regular doctor as he will get an X-ray pof thet knee first and meanwhile he will treat with NSAIS, rest, ice, compression and elevation, stretching, physical & Massage therapy can offer some relief. I hope this helps.
