Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: I've been experiencing knee pain, both front & back of the knee, and is exacerbated by driving. When I drive, I feel shooting pain starting below the knee, then traveling around the knee cap, up towards my thigh. The pain also radiates down the front & outer leg & into my ankle. Sitting with knee bent for long periods of time also causes pain, but it stays mainly on the back of the leg & is dull & achy. Only am experiencing this on my right leg.

Brief Answer:
Suspected nerves compression

Detailed Answer:

Dear Madam,
Welcome to HCM,
I appreciate your concern for the pain you are suffering from.

After having gone through your case, I am of the opinion that you have some sort of nerve compression that causes the pain which aggravates during driving and during sitting with knee bent for long periods of time.
Soft tissues such as muscles, tendons and ligaments can become inflamed and cause pressure on nerves
Prolonged stress from driving can cause this tightness, producing pain and discomfort.

I would like to advice you the following for relief of pain:

Rest your knee as much as you can
Frequent rest stops with stretching can help alleviate the discomfort.
Take over-the-counter medicines to reduce pain and swelling. These include Ibuprofen or Naproxen
Use a cane, crutch, walker, or another device if you need help to get around. These can help rest your knee.
If you wear an elastic bandage around your knee, make sure it is snug but not so tight that your leg is numb, tingles, or swells below the bandage.
Loosen the bandage if it is too tight.
Being overweight puts extra strain on your knee, stay at a healthy weight.

If you do not get any improvement, I advice you to kindly visit an orthopedic surgeon for proper examination and to find out other possible causes such as Baker's cyst, osteoarthritis, etc.

Hope your query is being answered.
should you need to ask further query, you are most welcome.
Wishing you best of your health.
Take care.
