Question: Hi doc,

I am a male, 34 years old. I am a bit on the heavier side after putting on nearly 20 KGS in last one year. Now I weigh 102 kg. I used to run earlier and I enjoy running. But recent attempts at running isngiving me sore knees and I am unable to walk. is there any need for any medical investigation? should I stop working out and is that going to help?

please advise

regards,

Brief Answer:
weight loss

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having increased knee pain. This is due ot the increase in weight. The knees are taking more punishment from the weight and giving you pain. You don't need to see your doctor for this. I would recommend that you work on losing weight. Since weight bearing exercise is causing pain I would recommend swimming. This allows for good exercise and burning of calories without the pain. Also bike riding will be less pressure on the knees. If you do know that you are still going to walk I would recommend taking Ibuprofen before your walk so you can get ahead of the pain.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
