Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain
Osteoarthritis of the knee
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
You have noticed increased pain in your knee while sitting and going up or down stairs. This sounds like you have either osteoarthritis of the knees or that you may have a torn meniscus. Without having an acute injury then I would more likely think that you have osteoarthritis. This is the most common type of arthritis and goes along with getting older and wear and tear on the knee. The treatment is pain control only. You can use topical analgesic creams, oral anti-inflamatories like motrin or analgesics like tylenol.
If you notice a grinding sensation when moving the knee that is the arthritis. Swelling can also occur with osteoarthritis.
If the above treatment options don't help then I recommend visiting your medical provider for evaluation and possible x-rays. With a thorough evaluation your provider will be better able to give your correct medication and possible other modalities like physical therapy or steroid injections.
