Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain Around Wisdom Tooth And Inflamed Gum Flap

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: The wisdom tooth on the lower jaw has been forcing out due to which the skin layer over it has erupted and this is causing lot of pain and this pain gets unbearable in the night specifically in the midnight. Ive been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol tablets for a week now n have been applying dolo gel on the affected area since a couple of days but these have been succeeded in giving me a momentary relief. Can you please suggest me an effective pain killer to get rid of this annoying ache as i have not been able to eat or even drink water. As even the tiny food particle or even the liquid touches the erupted skin, it causes a deathening ache which makes that region numb and i wont be able to move my jaw or even open or close my mouth easily.

Brief Answer:
Inflamed gum flap, only painkillers will not give permanent relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and seen the images in detail.

As per your explanation and the images the gum flap over the wisdom tooth seems to be inflamed and it occurs commonly due to food lodgement between the gum flap and the wisdom tooth which causes bacterial infection and inflammation of the gum flap,
This condition is known as Pericoronitis and is painful..
From the images it also looks that the wisdom tooth is impacted and will not erupt completely..
Taking painkillers will not completely relieve the pain, so you need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get an X-ray done and if the wisdom tooth is impacted Extraction of the tooth will provide permanent cure.
In case if tooth is not impacted then the overlying inflamed gum flap can be removed by a minor surgical procedure under local anaesthesia and the procedure is known as Operculectomy..

As of now you can take a higher painkiller like Tramadol for pain relief..
Do warm saline gargles and gargle with antimicrobial mouthwash like Chlorohexidine mouth wash.
Do cold compresses over the cheek on the painful side..

Wishing you a good health and a sooner recovery..

Any further queries and questions are welcome..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
