Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Nostrils

Trigeminal neuralgia the most likely cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
The way you explain your pain, being triggered by touching an area close to the nose and shooting pain that radiates to your temples is typical of trigemnial neuralgia.
Trigeminal nerve is the one that is responsible for the face sensation and sometimes without a very well known reason develop pain in the distribution of this nerve under the effect of certain triggers.
This is a very strong pain that lasts few seconds but might be repeated and really affect the quality of life.
it is not dangerous as a condition and does not cause damage in your body but as said it really affects your quality of life. Sometimes might be aggravated by eating and drinking and might prevent these processes from happening causing major issues related to this.
Things to be aware of:
1. Paracetamol and other pain medications might not help with it.
2. The preferred treatment is Carbamazepine (tegretol) which is found to be very effective and you should start it in small doses and gradually increase till you find the effective dose for you.
3. In elderly we should start with lowest doses and use the lowest effective dose. It might cause some sodium reduce so checking sodium (Na+ when starting it and after every dose change) might be advisable.
4. Try to avoid the triggers of the pain like pressure at the area as much as you can.
5. Some patients might get pain free in a year or two. Still carbamazepine is good treatment while on pain periods.
I hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you but please feel free to write if anymore clarification is needed on this issue. I would be very willing to reply and help further.
I wish you quick improvement.
Kind regards

Idiopathic (not known cause) generally
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Trigeminal neuralgia is mostly idiopathic, which means the cause is not yet fully understood and we do not know yet for sure what causes it.
Very rarely they relate it to shingles infection or multiple sclerosis (this is a neurological disease that affects the neurological pathways is the brain)- other pathologies that the patient might have had in the past or present.
I hope this answers to your question and is helpful but please feel free to ask if anymore clarification is needed.
Kind regards
