Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Right Lower Limb

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: I have a severe pain in my right leg in the front of my thigh. It hurts when I raise my leg up to the front and it feels like it tries to collapse when I have been sitting down for any period of time and try to stand on it. I wonder if it is a groin injury. I walk very hard and fast about four miles five times a week on up and down terrain. It started out by feeling it was hurting in my hip, but now it hurts almost in my lower abdominal area. I am a 72 year old female. I've been doing this walk for years. My email is YYYY@YYYY . Thank you for any insight.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The right lower limb needs to be examined for tone , power, reflexes , co ordination and motor/sensory innervation. If there is a suspected level of neurological abnormality then imaging investigations should be advised accordingly. For example if there is a spinal cause the x ray lumbosacral spine, initially and then MRI of the spine should be advised if required. If the pain has extended to the lower abdomen then the hernia orifices should also be examined. Ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis would also be required in this case. If no sinister cause is suspected then NSAIDs, muscle relaxants and physiotherapy can be utilized , initially to look for improvement.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
