Question: I have a severe rash that started out under my left breast, & my dr prescribed clotrimazole ccram to put on it. However, the next day I noticed it had spread to my right breast as well. Any suggestions please!

Brief Answer:
Most likely also a fungal infection under the right breast.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am sorry to hear that you have a bad rash under both breasts.

Did the doctor look at the rash or just recommend the anti fungal over the phone? If he/she saw the rash in person and diagnosed a fungal or yeast rash, then most likely the rash under the right breast is being caused by the same thing. If the doctor did not see it in person and the rash is severe, then do go in to have it diagnosed to make sure it is fungal/yeast.

That said, most of the rashes that are in warm dark places and skin folds such as under the breasts are caused by yeast or fungal overgrowth and clotrimazole would be appropriate treatment. If your breasts overlap onto your chest so that there is skin to skin contact, make sure your bra is as supportive as possible to keep your breasts elevated. And at night after applying the clotrimazole, you may want to put a thin layer of gauze between your breasts and underlying skin so that there isn't skin-skin contact.

Fungal infections can take longer to resolve than bacterial infections in some cases. But do your best to keep the area as dry and airy as possible. After a shower and towel drying, it may be helpful to use a hair blow dryer on a low setting to thoroughly dry the area.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
