My husband has degenerative disc disease and a horrible rash that has been ongoing from his service in Vietnam. He also contracted two different types of malaria while he was "in country." No one has been able to successfully treat this rash, and no one knows what has caused it. Any insights?
You have a history of degenerative disc disease. Most of the people with degenerative vertebral changes manifest itching, pruritus that may be followed by dermatomal path of irritation. Lesions in the central nervous system affect sensory pathways causing neuropathic itch.
Your husband can take antihistamines, apply ointments containing capsaicin for relief. He should take care of the hygiene and wear soft cotton clothes. Topical steroid creams are equally effective. He should get the degenerative disc disease treated at the earliest. Conservative treatment is combined with Physical therapy & surgery if required.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
