Suggest Treatment For Severe Shoulder Pain And Sinus Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2016
Question: Hi. I have been suffering from shoulder pain for about a month. I have painted quite a bit since college when i worked on the paint crew. I am 47. My husband recently got a new job and our new insurance doesn't begin until Dec. 1st so i have put off seeing a doctor about my shoulder even though it has been uncomfortable to sleep. This last week our family moved and we have all had the same virus. Two days ago I had to go to the urgent care for a sinus infection. I just started taking amoxicillin two days ago and I noticed that my shoulder pain (that is undiagnosed but I think it might be bursitis) has diminished. Now I am freaking out. Could I have a septic infection of bursitis? I also have anxiety and my husband thinks it's just my anxiety but I have been in quite a bit of pain this past month. No fever, just pain. I have not been able to sleep comfortably on my side and sometimes the other side causes my sore shoulder to have pain. I have been treating this pain with ibuprofin and sometimes ice. Should I be concerned about it? I don't want to die from sepsis!

Brief Answer:
Judge infection by blood cell counts/ treated till get policy benefit.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query under Health acre magic platform. I have read it carefully
& understood your concern.
Though your doubt of having Bursitis seems to be logical , it needs to be confirmed & treated earliest. Please understand .
- Bursitis with infection would show signs of inflammation like redness & swelling on surface & fever ..which you don't mention to have. The relief you got may or may not be by antibiotics taken ( may due to accompanying drugs/ relief from temporary flareup of the problem by viral fever )
-Non infected bursitis would lack in these symptoms & only pain & mild discomfort would continue over a long time.& can be treated with medicines/ physiotherapy
* still it is better to satisfy yourself & exclude infection for psychological tension & fear of having sepsis is not good for health.
I can understand your difficulty of non availability of insurance ...
- You can judge infection by simple blood counts in consultation with family physician/ government hospital,( which I hope won't cost much ) In creased number of total white cells counts (normal is 4500 - 11000) & increased percentage of Neutrophils( > 80%) suggests infection.
- If you find such counts you can start with antibiotics with your family physician's advise & get further investigations done ( MRI )after you can avail insurance coverage.
- In case you start getting fever & exaggerated symptoms.. it's worth consulting an orthopedic even before you get the insurance benefits.
Hope the answer is both informative & useful to you. Any follow up query you have, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks.
