Suggest Treatment For Severe Shoulder Pain
Question: Hi, I have shoulder pain. I had an MRI which showed arthritis. I've had two cortisone shots and although I had some relief the discomfort has shifted. I've been taking two Aleve 2xday but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions that would help my shoulder feel more comfortable?

Activities that cause symptoms should be avoided. A physical therapy program that focuses on establishing non-painful shoulder motion and strengthening of the shoulder muscles will also be helpful.
Cortisone shot will decrease the inflammation but will not help in the long term. You can also get some oral muscle relaxants prescribed from your orthopedician to help it.
Do a regular hot compress and apply local analgesic gel to increase the movement around the joint.

The hot compress seems to relieve it some. I have taken Aleve around the clock for a week and it does nothing. I've had a shot of cortisone that helped one location but the pain has shifted a little and is a constant ache. Will a muscle relaxant help that? Any suggestions besides Aleve. Advil seems ho work a little better are 2 tablets enough?
