Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat And Ear Pain

Question: I have a very sore throat with earache. This has continued for three days. I do not have a fever, and have no nasal drainage. I'm about ten days past the end of a cold (where sore throat was also a symptom). Does this merit a visit to the doc, or do I treat with tylenol, soup, and time?
Brief Answer:
probably tylenol, soup and time
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Here's what I would suggest: rest, push the fluids and take tylenol and throat lozenges for the sore throat. Salt water gargles or teaspoons of honey can ease off the throat pain as well.
If you develop fevers, severe ear pain, ear drainage or feel that your hearing is impaired then you need to see a doctor since you may be developing a strep infection of the throat or an ear infection that needs treatment.
Warm compresses on the ears can ease some of the ear discomfort.
If you are not mostly better in a week or if you begin getting worse then you need to see a doctor.
I hope you are feeling much better very soon,
