Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat
Question: I have a very sore throat. The nasal plum that goes down throat is very hard to cough up & comes up medium brown and hurts when I cough it up. Do I have an infection. My temp is 99.0F
Brief Answer:
Viral infection most likely
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Yes, it seems that you have caught a viral infection..
For pain/discomfort, you can take Ibuprofen tablets 200 mg every 8 hours after food.. if fever continues more that 3 days then you may need antibiotics also.
For cough, you should take a cough suppressant as Dextromethorphan(you may need prescription from your local physician for this) as well as an expectorant as Mucinex.
Try to drink plenty of fluids, warm liquids(soups/broths etc.) to prevent phlegm from getting thick.
For sore throat, you can take soothing throat lozenges as well as warm fluids.
I hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask further.
Regards
