Question: 2 days ago, i woke up at 6am and by 11 am I had 5 extremely loose and watery bms. at 7 am I took 30 mg of imodium and then another 20mg at 10am. I suffered from horrible stomach cramps and nausea 4 the next couple of hours, 3 pm I had to clock out and curl up under a desk and pass out for an hour before going home. As soon as i got home I changed clothes and went to bed where I slept for 15 hours. I am still having uncomfortable gas and diarrhea and experiencing extreme fatigue

Brief Answer:
hold off solids, fluid and electrolyte replacement, probiotics, peptobismol

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Acute diarrhea with or without vomiting is most commonly due to viral or bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract.

In most cases , symptoms last less than 7 days, rarely up to 2 weeks.

Fatigue is due to the illness itself and also due to fluid and electrolyte loss.

(!)Replacing fluids and electrolytes would help with this and as your appetite picks back up, there would be a decrease in fatigue.
Solid food should not be restarted until there is a 4 hour window with no diarrhea.
When this occurs, start small amounts of dry food initially. If food is used too soon, it delays healing.

(2)You should consider a sports drink such as gatorade or an oral rehydration drink. Either of these would make sure that you get back the electrolytes that you losing.

(3)Probiotics would help to restore the normal bacteria in the colon and hasten recovery. These can be used on their own or in yogurts with probiotics.

(4)pepto bismol can be used along with the imodium to help reduce the gas and diarrhea.
There are no drug interactions with these two medications

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

i have been experiencing the diarrhea in the morning and the afternoon, not so much at night. I do drink at least 44 oz of coffee that last the morning to the early afternoon but I have been doing that with no problem for the last year or more. I went from 4 16oz energy drinks and 6 diets sodas a day to 44 oz of coffee so I would think that would be better for my body

Brief Answer:
coffee is fine

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the delayed reply

Coffee is fine in general and if you have been using that for a while, not likely related to your current symptoms. It has been shown to have some benefits. Definitely better than the sodas and energy drink.

A transient infection, that should soon resolve, is the most common cause found.
