Suggest Treatment For Severe Vaginal Bleeding And Bulky Uterus
Question: My wife has severe bleedings during periods. The diagnostic tools have indicated "bulky uterus". To reduce bleeding she underwent hormonal treatments for 3 months under the guidance of Gynic. Finally hysterectomy is suggested. The recent scanning says "Few hyperechoic foci suggesive of polys noted in the endometrial cavity, largest measured 5-6mm. Splaying of the endometrial stripe noted at the fundus". Can she directly go for a hysterectomy now or go for a DNC first?
Brief Answer:
D&C should be done first.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The nature of polyps in the uterine cavity can be best diagnosed by DNC. in case there is any evidence of malignancy detected after D&C then during hysterectomy all the lymph nodes may need to be removed to decrease the chances of metastasis later on. it is best to get D&C done first and after the report that the polyps are benign only then get the hysterectomy done.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
