Question : I have been taking Effexor for nine months for anxiety disorder. Lately I had to increase the dosage to 225 mg. In the past few days, I've experienced severe itching all over my body for a couple of hours in the morning (about 2 hours after taking the pills). Is that a side effect of Effexor? Also, even at that dosage, I still have a hard time falling asleep at night and have a good of sleep without taking sleeping pills (Immovane). Is that normal? My anxiety attacks have almost dissapeared but I am concerned about those possible side effects. I've also, on a whole other subject, have had difficulty reaching orgasm when having intercourse with my husband since the last increase of dosage. Is that related also?

I read your query and understand your concerns.
First of all I like to inform you that there is definite relationship between increased dose of effexor and delayed ejaculation. The best way to counter this is to increase foreplay time so there is no sexual mismatch among both of you.
Regarding itching there are some anecdotal reports but fortunately it disappears after few days or weeks. In my experience most of patients with itching report that it was there for 5-7 days.
Regarding sleep I think you should use the sleeping pill till there are fur weeks with increased dose. After that attempt should be made to remove hyptotics.
