Brief Answer:
Hello dear. Causes can be multiple

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. I understand your concern for the mother. In old age, there can be multiple causes for low hemoglobin and platelet. Foremost cause is sepsis itself which can lead to such picture. Other than that, incidentally detected leukemia and myelidysplastic syndrome can cause this. Moreover, any occult bloosd loss in gastrointestinal tract can also lead to this.
Please discuss these with your physician, so that he can investigate your mother accordingly.
Thanks and regards

Hi doc, thanks for your response. Tests were done to check for occult blood in stool but it was negative. Although endoscopy wasn't done still there is no obvious bleeding other than traces in urine. She has been on deplatt and platoz earlier which was stopped when hb dropped. She has been complaining of lower back pain a lot, has very low appetite, feels nauseated with even a few bites of food, is sleepy a lot, has breathlessness. I'm not sure what tests need to be done to figure out the causes. The gp, cardiologist and nephrologist are all consulted but they again told me to ask a hematologist. Pls tell me what to do

Brief Answer:
Hello. She requires a colonoscopy and marrow examination

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. So even if the occult blood test is negative, a colonoscopy and upper gastroscopy is warrantesd. If these are XXXXXXX then a bone marrow examination will give the answer for anemia. Please discuss these test with your haematologist.
Thanks and regards
