Suggest Treatment For Sialadenitis
The salty taste continues to plague me every few hours. The tenderness has been gone for over two weeks now. I cannot detect a difference in my salivary glands on the right vs left side, but I'm not really sure what they would normally feel like. I have not had any headache, fevers, diarrhea, vomiting, or neurological problems. Within the last week I have begun to decrease my caffeine intake and I'm still getting these taste episodes several times a day. I eat a higher fat, lower carbohydrate diet. My BMI is 26. I'm 35 years old. I see the dentist regularly and have good oral health. I cannot detect any lesions on my gums or mucosa of my mouth. I drink several glasses of water daily, my mouth is not dry, so I don't think I'm dehydrated.
Any ideas?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far the swelling near the ear lobe that is recurring can be a parotitis or sialadenitis secondary to stone in the salivary gland duct. Usually when there is a stone, the glands will get swollen when you stimulate the glands, particularly when you eat something. The altered taste can be because of the pus discharge secondary to sialadenitis and also because of the reduced salivary secretion secondary to sialadenitis.
Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get an ultrasound and a sialography done to confirm the diagnosis. If i am your treating doctor, I would have suggested you to take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin and metronidazole combination till we confirm the diagnosis. Do saline gargling.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed, we can treat accordingly.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.
