Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Chemotherapy

Question: HI my mum has been living with stage 4 gallbladder cancer for 1 and a half years . She's been doing great and has had chemo every send week for the entire time with no signs of cancer shrinking but not growing either and she has handled it well still going about normal life, in the last three weeks she has started to complain about not being able to go to toilet starting to feel a bit of pain and generally ageing right before my eyes where she has become weak and is struggling to leave house to go to shops and have any energy. I just feel like she's turned a corner and is starting to maybe come to the end. I have no experience with cancer so I don't know how it works. Are these signs of her starting to go down hill ?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
It may be, but her doctor must do testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It may be a sign that she is going downhill, but not necessarily. Sometimes after a long period of treatments the body just gets tired and needs to rest and recover. Her doctor will need to do testing to determine if the cancer has spread or if her other organ systems are starting to fail. Don't give up hope. Make sure she sees her doctor to determine if this is a temporary condition that can be reversed or something more serious.
I wish you the best,

She is actually in emergency at moment as my sister and i are so worried she's just not herself anymore and I just have no idea what to expect or to see signs to look our for. Is there any literature on this or websites. Eveything I look for online is to do with the last few weeks of their life not from when they start to go to the end.

Brief Answer:
try a hospice support group

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The problem with finding this kind of information is that all patients are different. Some die quickly, some recover and some die slowly. Your mother's physicians would be in the best position to tell you what to expect of her condition. There may also be hospice support groups that can offer you information and support.
