Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having nasal polyp.
As per your clinical details, it appears to be your nasal polyp extended to all sinuses.
Sino nasal polyposis (involvement of all sinuses) may induce asthma, airway obstruction, fungal sinusitis or sepsis.
There are two treatment measures. 1. surgery, 2. medical management. Decision can be taken by the findings of CT scan of para nasal sinuses and medical risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, heart condition).
In case of polyp secondary to allergic rhinitis (pollen or dust), recurrence is common. You may require life time treatment and follow up (needs steroidal spray and prophylactic anti allergic medications).
I suggest you to do ct scan of para nasal sinuses and up load the report for farther discussion.
Meantime, continue same steroidal spray and start prophylactic anti allergic medication (tab.lukotas-lc (montelukast +citrizine)one tab at bed time.
If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
Could this be a fungal infection?
XXXXXXX
Nasal endoscopy/CT scan of para nasal sinuses.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
Physiologically, body produces too much histamine when it has an allergic reaction. An allergen (pollen/dust) enters the body through the skin or is inhaled. The IgE antibodies in turn affect mast cells throughout the body and cause the release of histamine causing inflammation.
Histamine levels depend on the potency and volume of the allergen.
As such, total nasal blockage do not confirm its extension or fungal infection. Investigations like nasal endoscopy, CT scan of para nasal sinuses or culture of the nasal material confirms fungal sinusitis with extension into other sinuses.
Hope, I have answered your query.
Take care.
