Brief Answer:
Gradual lowering of dose of steroids its very important

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM,

I read carefully your question.

It is not usual to prescribe steroids for sinus infection. Unless you are an allergic person, or have any other condition that is cured by steroids.

Anyway, it is very important to quit steroids gradually, and not stop them immediately. you can take them for shorted time, like remove 1 tablet every day until you have one table the last day. So, the time of tapering it will be shorter.

If the hair loss has started from the treatment with steroid, it will stop when you wont use anymore steroids. If it has other causes, then you should consider doing a visit to your doctor and doing a general physical exam and necessary labs.

Hope this is helpful.

The pred was 10mg so he had me taking 40 mg for 3 days and taper on down. I called and he said to go down to 2 for 3 days then 1 a day. Does this sound right? Will the rash go away? Is there anything that I can do to not lose as much hair?

Will it be safe to have my hair colored in 3 weeks?

My doctor suggested going down to 2 for 3 days then 1 for 3 days does this sound right? Please Please answer me

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can color your hair, because it won't fall more than it is falling

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thank you for asking a follow-up question,

I apologize for the belated response, it did fall during my nighttime.

Yes, the tapering down is right.
You can also do it for a shorter time like 2 for 2 days and then 1 for 2 days, but do this only if you are seeing improvement of the medical problem that the doctor prescribed it for.

Even though, falling hair is not a direct symptom of steroid use, so I would not worry about it. Once is 3-4 years, the hair start falling so the body regenerates and grows new hair. I think the hair is falling because of that. I think you can freely color your hair in 3 weeks, because it wont affect the growth or wont make it fall more.
But, if you see that the hair is continuing to fall after you finish with the steroid therapy, and you see that it is getting rare, then you should consider doing some labs like checking the thyroid function, do a general check-up to understand the real cause of why it is falling.

Hope I answered all your questions. Feel free to write back if you still have questions, and I will be happy to answer as soon as possible.

Take care,
Dr. Papaqako

I have had a general thyroid test and it seems fine and the general findings are good. My doctor just says take rogaine of course he is a little hair deficient himself. I don't think he takes it seriously. Wha other labs do you suggest or could my stress level be that high that it is causing it? I take biotin and gelatin every day to try and help my hair.

Brief Answer:
Possible causes of hair loss

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Some of the causes of hair loss are:
-- Genetiks...we can't do much about it, so if your close family members have had the same problem than you may have it because of it.
-- Age...hair gets thinner with the age, and colour changes also.
-- Thyroid...its good you have ruled out the problems from it.
-- Anemia...Consider doing a CBC (complete blood count) and rule it out, if you haven't done one in the last year.
-- Diet...eat healthy, lots of fruits and vegetables, stop smoking or drinking alcohol.
-- Medications...if you have other problems and you are taking medications that have as a side effect the loss of hair, than its the cause. Steroids do not cause hair loss, what you mentioned above does not cause it either.

Talk with your doctor about about what mentioned above see if you can do something about it.
As I mentioned in my previous answer there is also a physiological fall of the hair due to regeneration of new hair. If you don't notice areas in your head that are with very few hair, or without hair at all, then maybe its the physiological one, and then maybe thats the reason why your doctor seems to not taking it serious.

Hope I was helpful somehow.
