Suggest Treatment For Sinus Infection With Nasal Congestion, Sore Throat And Cough

Question: I have a sinus infection with nasal congestion, sore throat from drainage, a bad cough with yellow mucus, no fever, no other serious symptoms. I have had this for 2 weeks. I am in between regular doctors and have not found someone who meets my needs. I know this because I have lived with this all of my life, and I am 68 years old. It comes on 3 or 4 times a year. I have allergies to dust, mildew, mold, outdoor growth such as ragweed, goldenrod, etc. When I am overworked and run down the symptoms return. I had an excellent doctor in my 20's who helped me with all of this. He is now retired. I went to 3 family emergency clinics who gave me cough syrup. At the 3rd clinic I told the doctor that many years ago I was given Augmentin . And it has cured me every time. Later on I went to Augmentin XR (1000 mg/625 mg) taken 2 capsules twice a day. (ie 4000 mg a day for 10 dqys). This cleared up every symptom and stayed gone for a long time. At the 3rd clinic I explained this, but they would only give me 875 mg. I have tried to make this work, and some of the symptoms have improved. But the cough and mucus are still bad. I saw your add on tv and hoped you could help me. All I need is the Augmentin XR. I am anxious to hear from you. Thanks so much.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I understand the need to get what has been working for you over the years. However , these drugs are the same. Also, am not sure there is any formulation of 1000/625mg of augmenting XR. If i were your treating doctor, I will give you this exact drug not because it is different but because of your belief in it. Unfortunately, antibiotics cannot be prescribed only as you require a treating doctor to provide a script. My main advice will be that your drugs are the XXXXXXX and you should be more relaxed and believe more in the fact that they can both resolve the problem. Feeling most of the symptoms relieved is a good sign about what they do being the same product.
