Question: What can you tell me about Bell's Palsy? My sister has been diagnosed with it. One side of her face is paralyzed and her speech is slurred. She cant close one eye and eating or drinking is difficult. How long does it last? Will she completely recover? Does it come back?

Brief Answer:
Few months time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your query.

Please find pointwise answers to your queries:
1)It may take upto a few months(even upto one year) to recover-with proper physiotherapy, medicines and facial exercises/massage.
2)It usually recovers completely in more than 90 percent of the cases.
3)Yes, it may come back in some patients.

Further, if it is of recent onset, a short course of steroids and antiviral medicines will help. Please visit a neurologist in person, for further opinion on this.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions on this,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Regards
