Suggest Treatment For Small Clear Pimple On The Bottom Lip

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Sep 2016
Question: Hello, I noticed a very small clear postule on the right side of my bottom lip yesterday, right before the inner lip. (i think it was a postule, it was early in the morning and I am obsessive about picking things) Anyway, I picked it and it left a small cut in my lip skin. It is practically gone as of this morning. No pain, no swelling, no scab or scar. I am wondering if this is hsv1 or if it could be something else?? Plan on going to get screened next week. I would send you a picture but I can hardly see it in the mirror. thank you

Brief Answer:
Most probably mucocele

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM....

I read short history you provided. The lesion developed suddenly might be vesicular. Which ruptured after pricking and healed without scar or erosion..right? This suggests most probable diagnosis of mucocele... Do not worry.

It does not seem herpes simplex. If it is mucocele, it is a harmless condition. But, it might recur and might heal without treatment. If it occurs again and you feel embarrassing, then consult the Dermatologist or ENT surgeon. He may guide you properly for its recovery. Rupturing the small lesion under strict aseptic precautions may be helpful. If it is large one, then removal of the cyst is required surgically.

I hope this would be helpful to you. Please let me know if there's any further queries.

Thanks.

Hello again, and thank you. The lesion did not scab as I said, but I can feel where it was with my tongue and barely notice it with a morror in the sunlight. So there might be somewhat of erosion... It is painless, and barely noticeable. I would imagine it would be completely gone by morning. I was wondering what causes mucocele? I had been licking my lips incessantly, I believe I noticed a break in my lip skin in the same area a day or so prior to my current ailment. I also bite my lips, could it be from trauma? I have extremely sensetive skin, fyi. I suffer from ingrown hairs on my face and groin, and have jad a lymphocele on my genetalia before fron trauma. I know you can't give me a definite answer without testing or examination... I just figured if it were hsv1 it would have been painful to some degree. I can be a bit of a hypochondriac. Just trying to be thorough. thanks again, Doctor

Brief Answer:
Mucocele

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are right. Trauma to the lip might induce formation of Mucocele. Basically it is a small cyst containing mucin. Blockage of salivary gland duct may leads to mucocele. This might happen if you repeatedly bite the lip. So, avoid the bad habit of damaging the lip...ok

There is no need to worry ,..even if it occurs again.

Thanks.
