Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
First, I would need more information.
How did you start smoking,
How long have you been smoking,
How many cigarettes do you smoke,
Are you a chain smoker,
Have you tried anything so far,
Where do you live,
Have you tried coming down on the number of cigarettes,
Any alcohol use,
Any other addictions ,
Any working issues with smoking,
What's your food preference?
I would like to know why you needed to restart smoking?

Hi
Thanks for your response.
I have read your response.
I think we can help you with this issue.
The fact remains that you had kicked the habit once.
In all probabilities, you can do so again.
And I think you can do it easily.
Only it will be slower this time.
2 things you need to remember-
1. it is always a bit tougher to leave- so avoid getting in the habit again.
2. you will have to make efforts to stop this time.
1st- try not to stop suddenly-this time it will not work. You will have to do it slowly. Reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke by 1 per week. So taper to 4 per day, then 3 per day, then 2 per day and so on. You can reduce it one every 7 to 10 days.
2nd- you may get the urge to smoke. try to get busy in some other activity. It would be easier to divert your mind if you stay away from your smoker friends. you can divert yourself to work, or your hobbies.
3rd- if the urge still persists, you can try nicotine gums. These are chewing gums that have the flavour of the nicotine. Make sure you dont take chewing gums that actually have nicotine. That will only turn you from cigarettes to chewing tobacco.
Brands like Nicotex are available- however these are usually needed for long standing chain smokers, and so you may not need them. However, if you have a urge to smoke during your tapering phase, it may help.
4th- exercise is specially a good method of reducing- people always say that there is better thought process and relieving sense on smoking. The reason is that your heart rate goes up thereby increasing circulation to the brain. So, if you change over to exercise, again your circulation will increase simulating the effects of smoking- an may thus help.
Of course if you want to meet a doctor, in XXXXXXX you can go to Safdarjung, Apollo, and Moolchand hospital for the same.
I have tried to make it a simple as possible. Please feel free to contact me for any further details. apologies for the delay in this response.
Best of luck,
Dr Mittal
