Question: My husband snores terribly. I bought him a mouthpiece to wear at bedtime but it makes a blister in his mouth and leaves his teeth sore. Do you have any alternative suggestions?

As below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Get a Seep Study (Polysomnography) done to assess the type and severity of the Sleep Apnea Syndrome. It is important to differentiate between Central and Peripheral Sleep Disorders.

2. Get a flexible Nasopharyngosocopy done. This will help in determining the level of the obstruction. A Dynamic MRI Scan can also be done.

3. A trial with a Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) machine should be done.

4. All these investigations and a general physical examination will need a consultation with a doctor or physician who specializes in Sleep Disorders.

5. On of the foremost measures to stop snoring is for him to loose weight.

6. You may follow up with the reports here for further treatment options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
