Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: I have twisted my knee, it hurts when I step, doesn't feel like I've broken anything. What should I do?

Can I apply heat? Can I take anti inflamatory medicine?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Alternate Heat and Cold, Pain killers help

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX! Thanks for coming to HealthcareMagic.

From your description, i'd agree. I don't think anything is broken. Elevating and alternating heat and cold packs will be helpful.

Remember RICE: Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Its a good way to remember what to do in a soft tissue injury.

If the pain doesn't settle in a day or 2.. or gets worse along the way... then you need an ER and a set of x-rays. So keep that in mind.

Anti-Inflammatories are a good idea. OTC Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen can be used as directed on the label.

Hope this helps, Let me know how else I can help.

Vinay
