Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Low Body Temperature

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Feb 2016
Question: Hello, I'm 45 years old and I've developed a sore throat over the last two days that is getting worse. My throat appears very red, but there are no white spots or blisters. Also, I don't have any sinus issues that usually immediately follow when I'm coming down with a cold. No headache, but some mild muscle aches. I've taken my temp repeatedly this morning, and it's reading 95.9 each time, which is low for me. Overall I don't really feel that bad, but I want to make sure that I don't infect anyone and that it's not a bigger issue.

Brief Answer:
Possibly an upper reparatory tract infection, viral!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this sore throat that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and this is not suggestive of any threatening disease condition. This is typical of a viral upper respiratory tract infection. Treatment consists only in managing the symptoms of pain with tylenol. Also, much fluids, fruits, vegetables and regular exercise is helpful to accelerate healing and recovery. Antibiotics have no place in the treatment of viral upper respiratory tract infections and you shouldn’t be given any. Your temperature is okay and probably reflects the low temperatures around this period of the year and certainly no cause for concern.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
