Question: Hello, I have a sore throat and tongue, somewhat swollen glands, small bumps in my mouth though they do not hurt. There is also fever. I have a normal appetite and am able to taste the food. I am a bit tired and fatigued, no muscle aches. I have a constant headache and I experience constant pressure in my head. It has been building over approx. the last three weeks.
Any help would be appreciated as I cannot afford to see a doctor at this time.
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Likely viral upper respiratory infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Throat pain, tongue, swollen glands with fever and headache symptoms are likely due to inflammation of throat and oral cavity which in turn is because of upper respiratory infection (pharyngitis, laryngitis, epiglotitis).

Majority of cases throat pain are due to viral infection, but in some cases it is related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis).

You are likely to be having viral upper respiratory infection.

You can try below mentioned symptomatic treatment if you are unable to see a doctor right now.

1) Take pain killers with anti-inflammatory combination (like paracetamol 500mg with ibuprofen 400mg tablets) twice or thrice daily (but not more than 4 tablets per day) for throat pain which are available over the counter.

They will also help to reduce further inflammation in throat and thereby will help to subside symptoms quickly.

2) Antihistamines like levocetrizine 10 mg or benadryl twice daily if you have a dry cough.

3) Nebulization with steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day.

4) Warm salt water gargles or antiseptic mouthwash (chlorhexidine) which will certainly help for symptomatic relief.

5) Probably antibiotics will not require here since it is likely a viral infection.

Also continue with vitamin supplements (vitamin B complex, folic acid) and plenty of water.

We may expect to see improvement within 3 to 5 days and in case if NOT then it would be advisable to see some local doctor for further evaluation.

Hope this will help you and get back to me with more information as I asked.
